Ritzville businessman Glen Stockwell is challenging incumbent Rep. Joe Schmick for Washington’s 9th Legislative District seat, but at times he seems to be running against the state’s entire political heirarchy.

In recent months Stockwell has offered to debate Gov. Chris Gregoire and Sen. Majority Leader Lisa Brown, as well as Schmick and 9th District Sen. Mark Schoesler. He’s sent letters to the state’s congressional delegation. He wants everyone he knows to support completion of the Columbia River Basin irrigation project.

“I honestly feel this is the correct project for Washington,” Stockwell said. “It’s worked for 60 years, and if it’s finished we’ll have another 60 years of success. It’s the only answer that will cure the problem we have with the state deficit.”

The latest revenue projections indicate Washington is now facing a $520 million revenue shortfall in the current biennium, which ends June 30, plus a $4.5 billion shortfall in the 2011-’13 biennium. In response to the projections, Gregoire recently ordered state agencies to cut their budgest 6.3 percent across the board.

Building a couple of dams and finishing the Columbia Basin project will allow agricultural production on another 100,000 acres and create thousands of jobs, Stockwell said. “Washington needs to invest in a project that will return a positive cash flow for decades to come. The problem with Olympia is they don’t understand you have to use money as a tool to earn more.”

Stockwell said he can show how to complete the project and how to store water “more cost-effectively than anyone else. I know how to fund it with three different methods — without new taxes or using stimulus dollars. I know where the money’s at!

When asked where, however, he said he’s “not prepared to say yet", until a "Non-Revocable Project Trust Account" is put in place.

Formal Citizen's Request to Senator Patty Murray

Senator Murray,

I would formally request you add to your re-election platform the largest Public Works project undertaken in United States history by President Franklin D. Roosevelt the "Completion of the Columbia Basin Project"!

Please take this proposal to President Obama an admirer of Franklin's achievements in office, and ask the President to put this project at the top of his "Public Works Renew America Agenda" for  Our Nation.

On CNN today it is being reported 34 states can no longer pay unemployment to their citizens!

No doubt with the current 8.9 + Billion Washington State deficit is running in the General Fund.  Washington State will soon be joining this list of states unable to pay unemployment, in the near future!

The National DNC and the Washington State Democratic Party can join with the President to complete this project.  It will be seen in the World and the National News as the "Party of Roosevelt's" crowning achievement with the leadership abilities of President Obama's, and Senator Murray's abilities to form a Bipartisan effort of the Democratic and Republican parties!

Please use the example of Senator Cantwell and Senator McCain did to form an alliance to reintroduce the "Glass Steagull" back into our banking system!

Please reach across the isle and ask Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rogers to join with you to form a bipartisan "Washington State Green Team" made up with Washington State Congressmen and Congresswomen.  To jointly and formally approach President Obama with a request to work jointly with him to complete the Columbia Basin Project!

I believe this project can be "tailor made" to fit President Obama's concept of allowing College students to earn their tuition similar to the 3C's program of Franklin's during the "Great Depression".

I believe with your experience, talents and Congressional knowledge you will have the ability to bring this "Job's production projectand Economic Development Project to Washington State!

In my opinion, "the Future of Washington State's financial success is Roosevelt's vision of the Columbia Basin Project"!  This project has 50 years of financial success for you and President Obama to rely on!

Thank you for your many years of service to "Our State and Our Country"!  Please call me, I would like to help you on this endeavor!

Respectfully Submitted,
